YOUTH THEATRE

Youth Threatre in Dalbeattie at the Birchvale

Youth Theatre is at the heart of what we do

Come along to our active Youth Theatre evenings here at Birchvale, and discover just how much fun it is to "be yourself"! We use drama games and exercises to tap into our creative zone of genius. Along the way, we build confidence and co-operation, playfulness and awesome imaginations.

No matter if you have no experience of the theatre and are a nervous beginner, or if you have tread the boards previously, we have something for you.

Our sessions include practical drama activities, improvisation and performance opportunities. Learning about voice, scripts, movement, character development and staging. We also try and develop writing and directing skills. Our sessions focus on traditional and contemporary forms and styles of performance.

We know some young people just need to let off steam, whichever section your child chooses they will have loads of fun.

We will work towards creating original work as a new performance company, and all our sessions are planned and delivered by knowledgeable and experienced theatre practitioners and supported by a friendly team of volunteers. Our young people have also gone on to study theatre and the arts (Cinematography, Photography, Technical Theatre (Light and Sound) and Theatre Studies) in further education at College and University. With some forming touring companies who have performed at the Edinburgh Fringe.

It's a fantastic way to become involved in something which is fun and, who knows, kickstart an aspiring actor's future path to fame and fortune! As saying goes, there's no business like show business!

Club Night is Thursday Night and is split into two sessions:

One of our Youth members had this to say about her experience of Birchvale:

“There are many ideas of what Amateur Youth Theatre means. Perhaps you are a Broadway fanatic or maybe you're shy and looking for a place to fit in or to hide out. In truth Birchvale is a place for fun and to explore new things. You could come to design costumes. Maybe you want to sit in the tech box and learn to operate lights and soundboards. Maybe you’d like to act. Perhaps you’d like to come, but you don’t want to be an actor or anything serious. That’s fine. I’ve found coming to Birchvale can build confidence and help you find new friends. Despite many differences people at Birchvale get along well and we support each other while having lots of fun and planning entertaining productions. Enjoy new experiences and diverse community at Birchvale’s Youth Drama Group.”
