What type of shows are we looking for?

What we are looking for varies based on what we have on, what we've had in the past, and what is topical and relevant.

The following is just a general guideline of how we programme - If you have another idea, we'd love to hear it!

3-4 Week Runs - Musicals, new musicals, operas, operettas, classics, reimagined classics, contemporary plays and international works.

1 Week Runs - Any of the above, plus new writing.

Smaller Scale Tours - Any of the above, stand up, sketch comedy, concerts, cabaret, magic shows, spoken word, readings, workshops, anything really (Be warned! We cannot schedule these until we have our main shows scheduled in and they need to play on the set of the main show if there is a main show running at the same time).

We particularly welcome shows with female, BAME, or international writers, and a diverse cast and crew.

How far in advance do we programme?

For shows running a week or less it can be anywhere between 2 and 4 months in advance.

For 3+ week long shows we programme a MINIMUM of 6 months in advance.

Terms and Conditions

• All hires will be at the discretion of the Birchvale Board of Trustees.
• Birchvale may be available for use before the agreed start of let and after the agreed end of let at the discretion of the Board of Trustees. Any extra time outside of the agreed period will incur an extra charge for use of facilities (as per above).
• If the hirer of Birchvale requires further technical features they must supply their own equipment and technician. The details of the equipment must be supplied to the theatre in advance and approved by the Board to avoid invalidating the Theatre’s insurance. In certain cases a full risk assessment may be required. All electrical items must be PAT tested.
• Any use of theatre props must be discussed and agreed with the appropriate Birchvale staff.
• Any or All items agreed for your use by theatre personnel must be replaced to their original position/s unless agreed otherwise.
•  You must have prior permission from Birchvale staff to sell any product at this event.
• Bar facilities: Alcohol can only be sold subject to the restrictions of the licensing laws. Operation of the Birchvale bar can only be conducted by Birchvale licensed staff using Birchvale supplies. Alcohol can not be given freely at public events.
• Discounted rates are available for registered charities and members of Birchvale at the discretion of the Board of Trustees.
• A deposit of £10 or 10% (whichever is higher) must be paid at the time of booking. This deposit is refundable until 14 days before the event date. The balance of the hire must be paid before the event commences.
• Technical information, such as lighting requirements, etc. SIX clear weeks before show date. This gives us sufficient time to advise you of our ability to provide your requirements.
• All publicity material i.e. Photos, Posters, Flyers etc. FOUR clear weeks before show date. We require a minimum of 25 A4 posters. We require sufficient copy about the show and cast together with photographs of the show or/and cast to prepare local press releases. Birchvale can supply a ticketing service, posters & programmes (there will be a charge for this service).
• Up to 20% of the agreed fee may be withheld should there be any material loss or damage to the theatre or fixtures or fittings within whilst in your charge.
